Back to the Future, Part II
This fantastic in-room information video from 1987 really brings back memories! No "giant golf ball" here, but rather EPCOT Center is described as "a celebration of man and his imagination on a scale never before dreamed of." The EPCOT Center fun begins at about 2:34 into this video. Enjoy!
Well, it's part of Disney's philosophy now to put in mismatched bad ideas, but to make them as beautiful and exciting as possible, so as to justify their placement. Rather then just putting these attractions where they belong to begin with.
For one of my marketing classes, we're writing a paper about how Disney Parks should market themselves as diverse yet unified, a sort of more for your money approach - pretty much as it's presented in this video.
They knew how to market Epcot better 22 years ago than they do today!

"...but leave your Mickey Mouse ears at home... EPCOT will be a place for parents to drag the kids, not the other way around."
"Future World contains an ever-widening array of pavilions..."
ReplyDeleteso much for that idea. I always understood the original concept to be 'additive' not 'rip and replace.'
Oh, my Seabase Alpha. Nemo has the most beautiful queue in the World, but good heavens, I miss the Hydrolators.

ReplyDeleteThis has got to be one of the most exciting things I've ever found on the internet. Oh, memories...
