Salt on the Wound

Reader J.Gall sends this little news item, which appeared on Allears.net, as well as other locations.

Remember, folks, EPCOT head Brad Rex made it clear that there are no plans to mark the milestone 25th anniversary of the landmark EPCOT Center (which it once touted with the immodest tagline above), but ...

Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex Celebrates 10 Years
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex is celebrating its 10th anniversary in March 2007.
Opened on March 28, 1997, the 220-acre complex hosts more than 180 sports events each year, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, the NBA Pre-Draft Camp, AAU National Championships and the Pop Warner Super Bowl. Many of the biggest stars in sports have competed or trained at the complex, such as PGA Tour golfer Tiger Woods, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and Olympic soccer star Mia Hamm.
More than 30 sports are played at the complex, from football, baseball and basketball to paintball, martial arts and wheelchair rugby. The complex includes weight training equipment and facilities, locker rooms, athletic training facilities, classrooms, office space and media facilities, as well as serving as the headquarters for most sporting events at Walt Disney World Resort.

I remember reading about this and I can't believe that a great park like Epcot gets passed over while a sports complex gets celebrated for it's 10th anniversary.

Salt on the wound. Couldn't have put it better myself.

OMG. That is just ridiculous. Seriously, how much farther is Disney going slip. I've never been so disgusted with the company more than I am right now.

this is unbelieveable. what will it take for these idiots to pull their heads out of their asses and do the right thing for EPCOT. bunch of morons these jackasses are, and they keep proving it more and more each day.

Not only is this ridiculous that a HOTEL gets creedance above EPCOT one of the MAJOR parks for WDW but it is ridiculous in that they don't even mention anything about EPCOTs 25th.

Remember though what happened when they celebrated the Magic Kingdom's Anniversary they turned Cinderella's castle into a pink birthday cake (cringes) I wouldn't want to know what they'd do to spaceship earth if they did that to Cinderella Castle.

Even a honorable mention would be good..but apparently we must celebrate EPCOTs anniversary in silence, most people probably won't even realize its EPCOTS anniversary because its so unspoken about while at WDW, not even tshirts were made up..a sad sad affair if you ask me

I don't know--this doesn't look to me like Disney's Wide World of Sports is getting a party or anything. As far as I can tell, the "celebration" consists entirely of that press release, designed to draw a little attention to a complex most visitors don't even know exists. I agree EPCOT should get some recognition, but this is nothing.

That's fair. So, then, could someone at least do Epcot the honor of a simple press release?!

I am returning to EPCOT in 2 weeks (and the other WDW parks) and I am proudly wearing the T-Shirt I ironed-on of the fan-made Figment graphic (25 years of Creative Wonders) and I also bought another fan-made T-Shirt online that I'll also be wearing in the park. I think everyone should wear them if they have them.

Nice! Glad to know you're keeping the spirit alive ... and much better than wearing a "Disney Parks" shirt!

Wow 82. I'm about to cry. I'm so glad that my little piece of information made it onto the main blog. And I'm glad to see that you and so many others are as outraged as I.

I gotta admit that is rather pathetic. Of course, whose to say they might actually mention something about the 25th once the time actually comes around? We've got a few months until the time comes, and hopefully, we can at least poke Disney into putting out some dumb little knick-knack like a commerative pin for Epcot's 25th.
